The Women’s Bond Club Scholarship Program

This merit-based program awards scholarships to young women in high school who are interested in a career in business or finance. The scholarship, which can be used to pay for books and other expenses, totals $20,000 over four years. Since the program’s inception in 2000, WBC has awarded 76 scholarships totaling $1.26 million.

The WBC Scholarship Program is available to students attending a select number of NYC public high schools with a business curriculum. Scholarship winners participate in Guiding Star, a mentorship program. Each student is paired with an experienced professional for the course of their four-year college career.

Mentors offer career guidance and help prepare scholarship winners for interviews, internships, full-time employment and life after graduation. The WBC Mentoring Committee works closely with the WBC Internship and Jobs committee to assist the WBC scholarship winners in identifying and interviewing for internship and job opportunities at WBC member firms.

Requirements for Scholarship Application

The scholarship application requires the following information:

  • Name
  • Address / Phone
  • Date of Birth
  • Social Security Number
  • GPA
  • Class Rank (if known)
  • Transcript (must be included with application)
  • SAT Scores
  • Extracurricular Activities
  • Colleges Applied/Accepted/Attending
  • Awards/Honors
  • Jobs/Internships
  • List of other scholarships applied for and outcome
  • Essay on career objectives (50 words or fewer); Personal statement of education goals, objectives and career plans (250-1,000 words)
  • Teacher Recommendation (from a math or business teacher)

Previous WBC Scholarship winners have attended colleges such as Baruch College, Boston University, Brandeis University, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, Fordham University, Georgetown University, Lehigh University, Middlebury College, New York University, Skidmore College and Williams College.

WBC Scholarship winners have also applied for and obtained internships at various WBC member firms and in some cases have been offered full time employment.

Scholarship Eligibility Guidelines

  • Female high-school senior in an eligible NYC public high school
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • High school GPA of 90 or higher
  • Demonstrated proficiency in business and math courses
  • Combined minimum SAT score of 1000 (for math and verbal) or ACT greater than 21
  • Demonstrated leader (in academic or extracurricular activities)
  • Well-rounded (participating in clubs or other extracurricular activities)
  • Demonstrated interest in business, preferably finance
  • Teacher recommendation (from business or math teacher)
  • Apply to 4-year accredited colleges
  • Once enrolled:
    •  Meet the standards of the college they attend and remain in good standing in their program
    • Enroll for a minimum of 12 credits per semester
    • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
    • Maintain a minimum 3.0 grade in each class taken
    • Maintain active participation in the WBC Mentoring program
